Objectives £º Addictive disorder is a major mental illness that is difficult to treat due to low insight, brain circuit errors, withdrawal symptoms, and other co-occurring mental illness. Various mindfulness-based interventions, such as mindfulness-based stress reduction, relapse prevention, and mindfulness-oriented recovery enhancement, have been applied for the treatment of this addictive disorder. The aim of this study was to review the effect of mindfulness-based intervention on addictive disorder.
Methods £º We reviewed various literature in regards to mindfulness-based intervention on addictive disorder.
Results £º Significant clinical effects were observed in various addictive disorders from the use of substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and drugs to gambling disorders. Some functional neuroimaging changes were also observed.
Conclusion : While Mindfulness-based interventions have limitations in the objectification of intervention methods and subjects in some studies, they can be as alternative or adjunctive treatments which can be applied in tandem with other existing therapeutic methods.
